The New Daily Quota System Explained
Before March 2026, Windsurf used a monthly credit system. You got a lump sum of credits at the start of each billing cycle and had to ration them. Heavy users burned through credits by week two and sat idle for two weeks.
The new daily quota system fixes this. Pro users get 50 premium AI interactions per day, refreshing at midnight UTC. This means you always have AI budget available every working day. A “premium interaction” is one Cascade agent run, one inline chat message, or one multi-file edit.
Code completions are unlimited on all paid plans and do not count toward the daily quota. Only premium AI features that call GPT-4o, Claude Sonnet, or Gemini Pro use quota. This is a meaningful distinction — you can autocomplete all day without touching your budget.

Is Windsurf Pro Worth $15/mo?
At $15/mo, Windsurf Pro is the cheapest premium AI IDE on the market. Cursor Pro costs $20/mo, GitHub Copilot is $10/mo but lacks an agentic editor, and Bolt.new starts at $25/mo for a completely different use case.
The 50 daily interactions are enough for 4–6 hours of active coding. If you code more than that, you will hit the wall — but the interactions reset the next day, so it never feels as punishing as the old credit system.
The Cascade agent is Windsurf's strongest differentiator. It plans multi-step changes, explains what it is doing at each step, and lets you approve or reject individual changes. If you prefer a more transparent, planning-first AI workflow, Windsurf offers something Cursor does not.
Windsurf vs Cursor: Which Is Better Value?
Cursor Pro costs $5 more per month but offers more model choices and a larger ecosystem. Windsurf's Cascade agent uses a planning-first approach that some developers prefer. Both are VS Code forks with very similar base functionality.

What changed in Windsurf pricing in March 2026?+
Windsurf replaced their credit-based system with daily quotas. Instead of buying credits that expire monthly, you now get a fixed number of premium AI interactions per day that refresh at midnight UTC. This eliminated the problem of burning through monthly credits in week one.
Are existing credit-based plans grandfathered?+
Yes. Users who subscribed before March 2026 keep their credit-based plans until they cancel or switch. However, new signups can only access the daily quota system. Grandfathered plans will not receive new features like Supercomplete.
How does the daily quota work?+
Each premium AI interaction counts as one unit. A Cascade multi-file edit counts as one interaction regardless of how many files it touches. Code completions are unlimited on paid plans and do not count toward the daily quota. Unused interactions do not roll over.
Is Windsurf Pro worth $15/mo?+
If you previously used Cursor Free and hit limits, Windsurf Pro is an excellent value. At $15/mo it is $5 less than Cursor Pro with comparable AI capabilities. The 50 daily interactions are enough for most developers working standard hours.
