Best Base44 alternatives

Base44 is an AI app builder, owned by Wix since June 2025, that turns plain-language prompts into working web apps with a built-in database, login and hosting, aimed at people who do not write code.

Free (25 message credits/mo); billed yearly, Starter is $16/mo (100 credits), Builder $40/mo (250), Pro $80/mo (500) and Elite $160/mo (1,200); monthly billing costs 20% more, and paid plans start at $20/mo when billed monthly. Source

Quick Answer: Base44 alternatives

If you want the same prompt-to-app experience with your code in GitHub, Lovable is the closest switch. If you want to stop paying credits for AI bug-fix loops, pick Bubble (edit logic by hand) or Claude Code (a coding agent on your own repo). For internal tools and client portals, Softr lets you keep building without AI credits.

Why people leave Base44

  • Credits run out while the AI fixes its own mistakes.

Every prompt costs a message credit, including prompts that only repair something the AI broke. Recent Trustpilot reviewers describe repeating the same command many times to fix one glitch, with no credits returned for bad output. trustpilot.com

  • Slow support and no refunds on annual plans.

Base44 has a 2.7/5 TrustScore from 928 reviews, and 54% of them are one-star. Reviews from October and November 2026 complain of two-day support replies and refused refunds after annual purchases. trustpilot.com

  • Taking the code elsewhere is not straightforward.

GitHub two-way sync requires the Builder plan or higher, and Base44's local-development docs describe running the code against a Base44 backend. Check what you would need to run the app without Base44 before you build on it. docs.base44.com

  • Some users are wary of the Wix ownership.

Wix bought Base44 in June 2025 for about $80 million plus earn-outs through 2029. Base44 still runs as a separate product, but builders who want independence from a large platform company look elsewhere. taiwannews.com.tw

  1. 01

    Lovable

Free plan with 5 daily build credits; Pro $25/mo source
    Best for
Non-coders who like the prompt-to-app approach but want their project in a GitHub repository they control. It is the closest like-for-like switch from Base44.
    Fixes
Backend and code lock-in; Wix ownership concerns.
    Skip it if
Credit burn is your main complaint: Lovable also charges credits per AI action, so debugging loops still cost you.
  2. 02

    Replit

Free plan; Core $20/mo ($18/mo billed yearly); Pro from $100/mo source
    Best for
Builders who want an AI agent plus a full coding environment, so they can run any backend and open the code themselves. Replit can also publish iOS apps to the App Store through Expo.
    Fixes
Backend lock-in; adds a path to iOS apps.
    Skip it if
You need to publish directly to Google Play, which Replit's docs say is not supported yet.
  3. 03

    Bolt.new

Free plan; Pro $25/mo; Teams $30/member/mo source
    Best for
People who want a browser-based AI builder that shows and edits the full project code, with a Teams plan for small groups.
    Fixes
Code visibility and lock-in; team billing.
    Skip it if
You want a flat monthly cost no matter how much you build, since Bolt's usage is also metered.
  4. 04

    Claude Code

Included with Claude Pro $20/mo; Max from $100/mo source
    Best for
People ready to work with files and a terminal who want a coding agent on their own repository, with no app-platform credits and any host or database they choose.
    Fixes
Per-prompt credit burn on a hosted builder; backend and code lock-in.
    Skip it if
You want hosting, a database and login handled for you without touching a terminal.
  5. 05

    Bubble

Free plan; Starter $32/mo billed yearly; Growth $119/mo billed yearly source
    Best for
Non-coders who are tired of re-prompting an AI and would rather fix logic by hand in a visual editor. Bubble has a large forum and agency community, and native iOS/Android building has been in public beta since June 2025.
    Fixes
AI fix loops (you edit workflows directly); slow support (large community).
    Skip it if
You want to own your code: Bubble's manual says apps cannot be exported as code.
  6. 06

    Softr

Free plan; Basic $19/mo; Pro $99/mo; Business $329/mo source
    Best for
Teams building internal tools or client portals on Airtable, Google Sheets or Softr's own database. Softr's FAQ says you can keep building in the no-code editor after AI credits run out.
    Fixes
Building stalls when credits run out.
    Skip it if
You are building a consumer app with many sign-ups, because every Softr plan caps app users.

Base44 alternatives: questions

Is there a free alternative to Base44?
Lovable, Replit, Bolt, Bubble and Softr all have free plans as of 2026-11-07. Each one limits AI usage or features on the free tier, so they are fine for trying an idea but not for running a real app.
What is cheaper than Base44?
Base44 paid plans start at $20/mo billed monthly. Softr Basic is $19/mo, Replit Core is $20/mo ($18 billed yearly), and Claude Code comes with Claude Pro at $20/mo. Lovable Pro and Bolt Pro are $25/mo.
Can I take my Base44 app with me if I leave?
You can sync the code to GitHub on the Builder plan ($40/mo billed yearly) or higher. Base44's docs describe the app running against a Base44 backend, so expect to rebuild the database and login when you move it elsewhere.
Why do Base44 credits run out so fast?
Each prompt uses a message credit, including prompts asking the AI to fix an error it made. Trustpilot reviewers describe repeating the same fix many times. Stating the error precisely in a single prompt usually costs fewer credits than retrying.

Checked 7 November 2026. Checked 2026-11-07. Base44's pricing page shows yearly-billed prices; only the $20/mo monthly entry price is stated outright ('Paid plans from $20/mo'). Monthly prices for Builder, Pro and Elite are not printed, only the 20% yearly discount, so they are left out. I could not load Base44 feedback-board posts (they render client-side), so complaints are sourced from Trustpilot instead. Whether exported Base44 code can run fully without Base44's backend is inferred from its local-development docs, not from an explicit statement. Lovable's pricing page did not render plan prices for me; Lovable Pro $25, Claude Pro $20 / Max $100 and Softr prices come from the caller's verified list for 2026-11-07, and Softr's prices also match its pricing page HTML. How we choose and how we make money: disclosure.
